Scaleflex DAM allows you to perform batch updates on multiple assets simultaneously by uploading a CSV file.
Using "Update via CSV", you can:
Modify or assign values to Custom Metadata fields
Add or update Tags
Rename multiple files at once
Move files across different folders
Prerequisites & Key considerations
Before performing a CSV update, keep the following rules in mind:
⚠️ Critical: The
UUIDColumn > TheUUIDcolumn contains the unique identifier for each file in DAM. Do not modify or delete the values in this column. The system relies on this ID to map your changes to the correct asset.
💡 Best Practice: Keep a Backup > Always keep your original downloaded CSV file as a baseline backup before making edits. If changes are applied accidentally or incorrectly, you can re-upload the original CSV to restore your previous metadata settings.
How to update files via CSV
Select your assets
Navigate to DAM and gather the files you wish to update. You can select assets from:
A specific folder or Collection
A Label set
Your Favorites
The results of a specific Search query
Export the initial CSV
Click the
...(More Actions) icon in the top-right corner of the interface.Select Update via CSV.
In the modal window, click Download CSV file.
Edit the metadata
Open the CSV file in your preferred spreadsheet tool (e.g., Excel, Google Sheets) and make your updates:
Custom Metadata Fields and Tags: Located to the right of the
Titlecolumn. For multi-language setups, each language will have its own dedicated column. For List (single value) or List (multiple values) fields, the values you enter in the CSV must already exist in your DAM metadata configuration. If a value does not exist in DAM, the system will clear or leave the field blank upon import.
If you are unsure of the correct formatting for specific metadata types, assign test values to a sample file directly in the DAM interface first. Then add the file to your selection for CSV Edits. It will serve you as an example of what values to fill-in for your files.
Formatting rules for multiple values & delimiters
Separating Multiple Values: When adding multiple entries to Tags or List (multiple values) fields within a single CSV cell, separate each value with a semicolon (
;).-
Column Delimiters: DAM only accepts comma-separated CSV files (
,).⚠️ Some spreadsheet programs automatically convert comma delimiters to semicolons (
;) upon saving—especially on system configurations set to regional formats that use a decimal comma. If your upload fails, open your CSV file in a plain text editor (e.g., Notepad or TextEdit) to verify whether entries are separated by commas or semicolons. If semicolon delimiter is the issue, you can find tips on how to fix this here
Modifying Filenames and Paths
You can rename or move files by editing the Path column in the CSV.
| Action | Original path | Updated path | Behaviour |
| Rename file | /folder1/old_name.jpg | /folder1/new_name.jpg | Renames the file while keeping it in the same directory. |
| Move file | /folder1/image.jpg | /folder2/image.jpg | Moves the file to /folder2/. If the target folder does not exist, DAM automatically creates it. |
| Move & Rename | /folder1/old_name.jpg | /folder2/new_name.jpg | Moves the asset to the new folder and updates its filename simultaneously. |
