Does Filerobot prevent the uploading of malicious executables?

As we all know the malicious executables generally fall into three categories based on their transport mechanism. They inject malicious code into existing programs, which become “infected” and, in turn, propagate the virus to other programs when executed. To prevent users from downloading harmful files like those there are different levels of restrictions:

  •  No restrictions: All downloads are allowed. Users still receive warnings about sites identified as dangerous by Safe Browsing. But, they can bypass the warning and access the site.
  • Block dangerous downloads: All downloads are allowed, except those marked with Safe Browsing warnings for dangerous downloads.
  • Block potentially dangerous downloads: All downloads are allowed, except those marked with Safe Browsing warnings for potentially dangerous downloads.

Filerobot detects the file type based on its mime type and decides if it is dangerous or not.

If you wonder if it would be possible to define the permitted file extensions /means level - No restrictions/ inside the security template then the short answer will be - no.

There is no possibility to define the permitted file extensions inside a Security Template, but do not worry!

The executables will not be uploaded so easily as there is a global restriction policy applied. It prevents a big volume of files that are considered dangerous (detected by mime type, not by extension) and it is implemented on the server level. It is not possible to be overwritten by the end-users.
