Why other format image is delivered when WebP was expected

WebP is one of the most optimised formats for web image delivery. It provides file sizes that are 25–35% smaller than those of JPEG or PNG, without compromising quality. This improves website speed and overall user experience. WebP is also widely supported by all major browsers, including Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari, and more.

How Cloudimage/DMO Delivery Works

Our system compresses the original image and automatically selects the most optimised format based on both file size and image quality. While WebP is chosen in most cases, if another format results in a smaller file size, it will be delivered instead to ensure the best performance.

Parameter Options

  1. force_format=webp

This parameter tries to deliver WebP, but if the WebP file is larger than the alternative (e.g., JPG), the system will automatically deliver the smaller format for optimal performance.

    Example: https://token.cloudimg.io/sample.li/paris.jpg?w=400&force_format=webp
Delivers WebP if it's smaller; otherwise, delivers the smaller format (e.g., JPG)

✅ Recommended: This is the smarter option, as it consistently delivers the smallest possible file.

  2. force_format=_webp

This parameter strictly forces WebP delivery, even if the resulting WebP file is larger than other formats.

    Example:https://token.cloudimg.io/sample.li/paris.jpg?w=400&force_format=_webp
Always delivers WebP, regardless of file size

⚠️ Use only when WebP is mandatory, as it may affect performance by delivering larger files.
